TAPING & MUSCULAR SUPPORT
What is Kinesiology tape?
Kinesiology tape is a thin, stretchy, elastic cotton strip with an acrylic adhesive. Therapeutic kinesiology tape that can benefit a wide variety of musculoskeletal and sports injuries, plus inflammatory conditions.
Muscle strength may be assisted by kinesiology tape via physical assistance and tactile feedback through the skin . This phenomenon may assist both the able bodied athlete to enhance their performance and hypotonic.
Why would it help?
Reduce pressure on painful areas - K Tape can be applied to relieve the tension often associated with weakened or inflamed muscles and tendons. It can help by reducing the pain caused by the overload and be helpful for engaging actively in rehab.
Improve your ability to move - depending how the K Tape is applied it is thought to activate stretch receptors in the soft tissue which feedback to our higher brain centres. This positively influences the control of muscle tension by activating muscle spindles. This in turn improves our ability to flex and respond to the stresses and strains of increased activity.
Promote blood flow and lymphatic drainage - when applied to the skin with stretch the K Tape naturally wants to recoil. As a result, it lifts the skin (see above) and fascia to allow blood and lymph flow to increase which may be beneficial in the recovery of soft tissue injuries.
Dry Cupping at SC Sport Centre is done by applying plastic suction cups to skin that is either dry or to which lotion has been applied. The lotion allows the Physical Therapist to glide the suction cup over the affected area providing a form of deep tissue massage.
Cupping is used to treat pain, ease scar tissue deep within muscles and connective tissues, and reduce swelling and muscle knots. Also, like many complementary treatments, cupping is supposed to minimize circulating toxins by drawing them into the skin where they are more easily removed.
